Lake Nakuru

Flamingos by the thousands
12/09/08
One of the most striking characteristics of the Rift Valley in Africa are its soda lakes.Inhabitable for most fauna, they are the preferred habitat for flamingos, as here they can get their staple diet: algae )which they filter with their beaks).
Lake Natron and Lake Nakuru are two of the most famous: the congregations of flamingoes sometimes defy belief: they come in the hundreds of thousands. The lakes turn pink, from the distance.
